Jimmy Don Wilson of Wills Point, 84, passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2019. He was the loving husband of Sandra Wilson for over 62 years. Jimmy Don and Sandra were married in Abilene, Texas on January 29, 1957.
Born on October 10, 1934, he was the son of the late Oscar and Maxine Wilson.
In addition to his wife, those left behind to cherish Jimmy’s memory are his son, Dirk Wilson of Dallas, Texas; two daughters, Melanie Irey of Kaufman, Texas and Karla Bunch of Houston, Texas; Sisters, Barbara Courtney and Maston of Waco, Texas, Nancy Tarpley and Sam of Manny, Louisiana, his brothers Jerry Wilson and wife Joan, and Teddie Wilson of Dayton.
He is also the proud grandfather of Cole McSpadden and Kriston, Morgan Howell and Jim, Kasey Bunch and fiancee Carol, great grandchildren Cheyenne, Maddison and Colton Howell.
Jimmy lived in Wills Point his entire life. He graduated from Wills Point High School in 1953 where he received a full scholarship to play football. He also attended Tyler Jr College and North Texas State. Jimmy Don was offered a contract with the Chicago Bears for which he was thankful however told them thank you but the “Cows are Calling”. He then became a life long cattle rancher.
He served his community in many ways:
-Van Zandt County Precinct 3 Commissioner for six years
-Member of the Wills Point Church of Christ where he served as a Deacon
-President of Union Grove Cemetery
-President of FFA
-President of McBee Water Corp
-Assisted his wife with the Girl Scouts receiving a lapel pin for 7 years of service
-Worked with the State of Texas to eradicate the screw worm in Van Zandt County.
-Special assistant to the Commissioners Court adding people to the tax roll.
Visitation will be held at Allan Fuller Funeral Home on Sunday, September 29, 3:00 – 5:00pm.
Jimmy Don’s service will be held at 11:00am, Monday, September 30, 2019 at the Wills Point Church of Christ.
