James Henry Grant Lauder (sometimes spelled Lauder) was born on 29 October 1869 in Burkes Garden, Virginia, the son of Gabriel Crabtree Lowder (1828-1897) and Harriett Fishburn Heninger Lowder (1835-1900). He was married to Mary Elizabeth Brown (1880-1918) in 1895 in Rigby, Idaho. They would have seven daughters. They lived in Idaho, then in Montana, where he was widowed in 1918. He was later married to Lottie Abbott Swan (1881-1958). He later relocated to Santa Clara County, California. He died on 14 August 1944 in Gilroy, CA at the age of 74. He was interred at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery (now Garden of Memories) in Salinas, CA.
