Christine R. (Murray) Dickson, 94, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 20, 2019 at the Corcoran House.

She is survived by five children: Kathy LaScalza of Gainesville, FL, Stephen Dickson and his wife, Maureen, of Smithtown, NY, Barbara Goodale and her husband, Alan, of Homer, NY, Christine Dickson of Berkley, CA, and Matthew Dickson and his wife, Gail, of Boylston, MA; a sister, Kathleen “Kitty” Lang, of Long Island, NY; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband of nearly 68 years, William N. Dickson, who died in October, 2014. Three siblings, Virginia Murray, Mary Theresa Porter, and Charles Murray, also predeceased her.

Christine was born in Brooklyn, NY, and raised in the Bronx, NY, daughter of Charles and Christine (Hartel) Murray. She attended local schools.

Following their marriage, Christine and Bill settled in Melville, NY, where they raised their family. She was employed as the director of the Career Center at Half Hollow Hills High School East, Dix Hills, NY for many years. Christine became an advisor, tutor and friend to countless students during her tenure and devoted much of her time to volunteering with the youth of the community. Upon retirement they relocated to Salem, SC, where she remained active in the local community, notably through the Adult Literacy Program, and in the parish of St. Francis Church, in Walhalla, SC. In 2011, Christine and Bill relocated once again, this time to Massachusetts. A resident of the Corcoran House, Clinton, since 2014, she regularly attended Mass, celebrated by the priests of St. John’s Church.

Always active, Christine loved swimming, cross-country skiing, hiking in the great outdoors, and walking. A true animal lover, Christine loved wild birds and cared for pets all her life. She also enjoyed playing bridge, cards, and board games.

Christine’s funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the McNally & Watson Funeral Home, 304 Church St., Clinton. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, the Dickson family suggests that memorial donations be made to Christine’s charity of choice: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), 424 E. 92nd St., New York, NY 10128-6804, in recognition of her love for animals.
