As a young child her family moved to a small farm in Bay View, Washington, and she graduated from Burlington High School in 1940. She married John Chambers in 1942. During their 25+ year marriage they raised four daughters moving to Southern California in 1953. Vera remarried Burt Frye in 1971 but lost him in 1982 due to heart problems. She moved to Prescott, Arizona in 2005 to be near her daughter, Heather, who watched over Vera until she passed on.
Vera led a full life with many happy memories over the years… With Burt, some of her fondest as he was quite the jokester. They met at a dance and never stopped dancing during their time together. They also loved to golf, bowl, miniature golf, go to the movies and to the horse races. Vera was quite the Texas Hold’em player and loved playing penny poker, charades and other games.
Vera was very self-sufficient and could do anything she set her mind to. She was very smart and resourceful and kept her mind sharp by reading, doing crossword puzzles and playing scrabble. She met friends wherever she made her home and wasn’t afraid to explore each new place. She also enjoyed travel especially to her parents’ birthplaces in Sweden and Finland to visit with family.
Vera is survived by her daughters, Susan Tompetrini, Ann Pauls, Patti Zygutis, and Heather Sorrells; step-son, Steven Frye; grandchildren, Jeffrey, Michael, Landon, Tiffiny, and Amber; great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; husbands; and her brother Robert Carlson.
