Blake Gilbert, age 16, of Royal, died Sunday, September 15, 2019.

He was born on December 28, 2002, in Hot Springs, the son of Chad Gilbert and Shawna Newcomb Gilbert. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Gary W. Gilbert; and his maternal grandmother, Patsy Newcomb.

From a young age, we all knew Blake was special. He always had a smile for everyone and he never met a stranger. He loved spending time with his friends and family inside and outside of the arena. A great lover of all outdoors, he was always up for a good adventure in the woods or water. He spent his years making many memories that included deer hunting, duck hunting, fox hunting, 4H and rodeoing.

In 2018, Blake began attending From the Arena to the Cross Rodeo Bible camps and became one of their “professional campers” … meaning he attended not just one but multiple camps. From the very first camp, his attitude, love and Christ like behavior was a standout. So much so, that the staff nominated him for the “Walk the Talk” award…. the most precious award that is given to a camper for showing the most Christ like behavior in their walk and talk. He quickly became part of the Rodeo Bible Camp family. He was a close friend, always ready to lend a listening ear and a shoulder to cry on for so many. Not only did he attend multiple camps, but as each camp passed, you could see his relationship grow stronger in the Lord. He was a helper, a supporter and a friend to so many, the ripple effect of his love and legacy will go on beyond what our earthly eyes can see.

He is survived by his father, Chad Gilbert of Glenwood; his mother, Shawna Gilbert of Royal; his maternal grandfather, Carol Newcomb of Royal; his paternal grandmother, Kathie “GiGi” Gilbert Carter of Ashdown; three uncles and two aunts, Robert Don Gilbert of Ashdown, Robbie and Melissa Newcomb, Roger Newcomb and Vicky Castillo, all of Royal; four cousins, Ashley (Slayton Taylor) Newcomb, Jayden Newcomb and Danielle Hudgens, all of Royal and Kirby Newcomb of Fort Smith; extended family members and a host of wonderful friends.

Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, September 19, 2019, at the Garland County Fairgrounds Arena under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Hot Springs.

Interment will be in Mount Tabor Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Wednesday evening, at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Robbie Newcomb, Seth Driggers, Britt Driggers, Briston Gann, Colt Smith, Tyler Britt, Slayton Taylor and Chase Berry.

Honorary pallbearers will be Don Gilbert, Trey Britt, Hammertime Rodeo Company, the Lake Hamilton Class of 2021, From the Arena to the Cross Bible Camp family, Lake Hamilton School F.F.A members, Lake Hamilton School faculty and staff, Arkansas Rodeo Association, Arkansas High School Rodeo Association, Southern Junior Rodeo Association of Arkansas and National Junior Fox Hunters Association.
