Mabel Terry Showalter


On Friday, June 29, 2007, Mabel Terry Showalter of Oak Hill passed away in an Oak Hill Hospital following a short illness. She was 79 years of age.

Born Mabel Marie Terry on Oct. 2, 1927, at Surveyor, she was one of 12 children born to the late Dewey Johnson and Thelma Louise Webb Terry. She was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Terry and his wife, Virgie; and a sister, Louise Farmer and her husband, Wally.

Mabel spent her childhood at Lester. She was a longtime resident of Metalton, where she raised her family. A homemaker, she was of the Christian faith.

In addition to members of the Terry family, Mabel was preceded in death by her husband, William Sanford Showalter; sons, James Howard, Raymond and Steven Paul Showalter; and a grandson, Rodney Wayne Martin.

Mabel is the beloved mother of Kenny Showalter and his wife, Debbie, of Gauley Bridge; Robert Showalter of Beaver; Gary Showalter and his wife, Cathy, and Rebecca Martin and James Sydenstricker, all of Beckley, and Cathy Martin and her husband, Rodney, of Chico, Calif.; the dear grandmother of 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grand children; the fond sister of Greg Terry and his wife, Sandy, of Eccles; Ronnie Terry and his wife, Jane, of Kenova; Harold Terry and his wife, Suzy, of Lima, Ohio; Donald Terry and his wife, Cathy; Billy Dean and Ronald Terry; Willa Mae Kimball and her husband, George "Red," all of Washington Court House, Ohio; Bessie Bass and her husband, Herbert, of Flat Rock, Mich., and Jessie Cochran of Beckley.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Melton Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Randy Pugh offciating. Burial will follow in the Trail Cemetery at Surveyor.

Friends may call noon until the time of the service.

Pallbearers will be: Tommy Cochran, Kenny, Gary and Clinton Showalter, Greg, Ronald and Harold Terry, and James Sydenstricker.
