Carolyn (Perkins) Mason
September 10, 1942 to September 21, 2019

Carolyn JoAnn (Perkins) Mason, 77, of Effingham, formerly of Patoka passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, September 21, 2019.
She was born on September 10, 1942 the daughter of Harold and Dorothy (Daniels) Chandler in Vandalia. She married Everett Perkins on February 12, 1961 at Vandalia Baptist Church and he preceded her in death on July 18, 1990. She married Carl Mason on January 31, 1995 and he survives in Effingham.

Along with her devoted husband Carl Mason, Carolyn is survived by her cherished children; step-children, precious grandchildren; many treasured great-grandchildren; kind sisters; and many special nieces , nephews, extended family, and friends.

Along with her first husband, Everett Perkins, Carolyn was preceded in death by both her parents; and sister, Peggy Chandler.

Carolyn was an encouraging lady of faith and discovered her love for Jesus at Overcup Baptist Church serving there in the early years of her life. She blessed the town of Patoka by being a faithful member of the Patoka Christian Church for over 30 years. Carolyn continued, in more current years, to shine her light for Jesus as a member of Watson United Methodist Church. She was extremely hard working from the time she arose to the time she finally laid her head down at night. Carolyn was the perfect farmer’s wife and shared in the hard work by driving the grain trucks during harvest time, and making sure everyone was well fed. She was so good with children and enjoyed her time as a teacher for the Patoka Christian Church’s Daycare. She had a compassionate heart and shared her gift of caring for others during her time working for Home Health Care. Carolyn was also an intricate part of the Greenville Cemetery where she took care of any secretarial work, mowed the cemetery, and sold monuments. To say she was a hard worker would be putting it mildly and her family carries on the value that Carolyn taught them, of a job well done. Carolyn was a natural when it came to bowling and belonged to leagues that won many trophies in her younger years. She had a heart for country music, especially Alan Jackson, singing along with all her favorite songs. Carolyn was an avid animal lover and any animal in need of a home would find the best one at her house. She had this same door open policy for any individual in need of a good meal and a soft place to land. Her generosity and kindness was admirable and made others want to be more like her. Carolyn’s passion was her grandchildren and she took great pride in being a true grandma and spoiling each one of them. She was a lovely lady and will be missed dearly by all her family and friends.

Day Macz Funeral Home in Patoka is in charge of arrangements. A celebration of life service will be held at 12:00 P.M. Thursday, September 26, 2019 at the Patoka Christian Church with Carolyn’s son-in-law, Tony Jackson officiating. Interment will follow at Vernon Cemetery.
