A native of Conway, SC, James was pre-deceased by his parents, Roxie Sessions Bruton and William D. Bruton;
his son, Jamie Bruton; grandson, Benjamin Boyle; and his brothers, William, Richard and Thomas Bruton.
He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Anne E. Bruton of Newport News; his sister, Patricia Powell and her husband, Arnold of Chesapeake; a daughter, Tara Boyle of Conway SC; his son, Ashley Bruton of Columbia, SC; sisters in law, Roseanne Bruton of Conway, SC and Jean Miller of Newport News, VA; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A member of Alliance Church, James had a quick wit and enjoyed people, often visiting on the phone when not in person. He influenced many young lives as a cosmetology teacher at PD Pruden Vocational and Technology School in Suffolk, VA.
James previously owned and operated a beauty salon in Myrtle Beach, SC. He also enjoyed the company of close friends such as Wayne Johnson, David Shaw, and Dr. Brian Alexander of Roanoke.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at 1pm at Graham Funeral Home, 1112 Kempsville Road Chesapeake, VA, with a service to celebrate his life following at 2pm with Rev. Palmer Zerbe officiating.
He will be laid to rest at Chesapeake Memorial Gardens.
