Weekend Accidents Claim Lives of Two Area Persons
Highway traffic accidents claimed the lives of two area residents last weekend, Andrea Joy Gilmour, 19 of 34 Malcolm Street, Almonte, lost her life when the car in which she was riding was in collision with another automobile on highway 29, two miles north of Franktown early Sunday morning, and Mr. Robert Wellington Pierce, 52, of Pakenham was pronounced dead on arrival at Ottawa Civic Hospital following a collision on the Town Line of Fitzroy near Coady Creek late Friday evening. Miss Gilmour's companion Paul Francis Healey, 26, of 20 ½ Russell St., Smiths Falls, driver of the car, was also pronounced dead at the scene by Coroner, Dr. W.J. Hanham of Carleton Place. It is believed the Healey vehicle failed to negotiate a curve in the highway and was in collision with a car driven by Mr Arthur J. Carey, 57, of Windsor, Ontario. Both he and a passenger, Margaret Recoshit, 52, also of Windsor received minor injuries. Miss Gilmour, a student at St. Lawrence College at Brockville, was the daughter of Mrs Marilyn Gilmour of Almonte and the late Mr Arnold Gilmour. A former student at Almonte District High School, Miss Gilmour is survived by two younger brothers, David and Angus. Funeral services were held on Tuesday from the Kerry Funeral Home, 154 Elgin St., Almonte with interment at Auld Kirk Cemetery.....
