James Gerdmann, age 67, of 1426 S. 21st St., Manitowoc, formerly of Two Rivers, passed away from a courageous battle with cancer on Thursday, Dec. 15, 2005, at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.

Jim was born Aug. 6, 1938, in Sturgeon Bay, to Harold Sr. and Virgil (Sadow) Gerdmann. He attended schools in Sturgeon Bay and Kewaunee. After high school, Jim served in the U.S. Navy for four years, the U.S. Navy Reserves in 1956, and was in active duty from 1957-1959. On Feb. 6, 1960, he married Judith McMurtrie at St. Agnes by the Lake Church in Algoma. James worked for various companies in the area, retiring in 1998 from the Manitowoc Shipbuilding Company where he was a welder for 27 years. Over the years Dad was an avid fisherman. He has enjoyed fishing with many friends and his family, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife: Judith; four daughters and two sons-in-law: Lynn and Keith Cudahy, Mishicot; Teresa and David Schultz, Whitelaw; Patricia (Gerdman) (sic) Schmidt, Manitowoc; Sandra Gerdmann, Appleton,and her fiance, Randy Klein; five grandchildren: Joshua and Michael Taddy, Amanda Radl, Allen Schultz, Tyler Sadowski; two stepgrandchildren: Kyle and Krista Cudahy; two brothers: Harold and Cathy Gerdman (sic) Jr; Elton and Susan Gerdmann; two sisters: Grace LeBotte and Arlene and Edward Fager; and three sisters-in-law: Marilyn Ferry; Carol and Frank Prevort; Vivian and Bernard Maine; one brother-in-law: Arnold Pillsbury. James is also survived by many loving and caring nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers-in-law: William LeBotte, Clifford Ferry, Donald McMurtrie and David Gorsege; sisters-in-law: Geraldine and Virginia McMurtrie, Arline Pillsbury and Joan Gorsege; father-in-law and mother-in-law: David and Laura McMurtrie.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 19, 2005, at the Klein & Stangel Funeral Home and Cremation Care Center, Two Rivers. Officiating at the service will be Deacon Ken Nelesen. Cremation will take place.

The family will great relatives and friends at the Klein & Stangel Funeral Home on Sunday, Dec. 18, 2005, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Visitation will continue Monday, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m.

The family would like to thank Dr.'s Larson, Baatz, Stern and all their staff; Hamilton Memorial and St. Mary's Nursing Homes, Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Froedtert Memorial Hospital and Bellin Hospital, Homecare Health Services and Hospice and all their staff for all the loving and special care given to James. A special thank you also to Tom Knutson, and to our sister Pattie, who cared for Dad during his most courageous time.
