Steve was the oldest child of Richard Alan and Gloria Blauschild Newman. Raised in Cleveland and Dallas, Texas, he was for many years a social worker in the Los Angeles area, working with children's services. He died on 15 September 2019 after a long illness. Steve was survived by his wife, mother, brother, sister, step-daughter and several nephews. As was his wish, he was brought back to Cleveland for burial and was interred near his father at Bet Olam on 18 September 2019.
