MRS. BALLARD, 73, OF ZIRCONIA DIES; FUNERAL FRIDAY

Mrs. Mary C. Ballard, 73, of Zirconia died in a local hospital yesterday afternoon after a long illness.

She was the widow of Elias A. Ballard. A native of Henderson County, she was the daughter of the late Leonard R. and Mythursia Ward Capps.

She had been an active member in the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church for 58 years.

Mrs. Ballard was taken to the home of a son, the Rev. Alva Ballard, this afternoon to remain until the service hour.

The services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church with the Rev. Jesse Osteen, the Rev. J. N. Batson, the Rev. Ted Huntley and the Rev. Ernest Blythe officiating, and interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Thomas Shepherd Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Active pallbearers will be Garland, David, Marvin and Alex Ballard, and Preston and Bobby McDowell. Flower bearers will be granddaughters.

Surviving, in addition to the son, are five other sons, James C. of RFD 3, Hendersonville, Ivory T. of Hendersonville, Lloyd F. and Fred C. of Zirconia, and William O. of East Flat Rock; four daughters, Mrs. M. H. Redden of Hendersonville, Mrs. Pearl B. McDowell of Hendersonville, Mrs. Grady L. Jones and Mrs. Otho Beddingfield of Zirconia; 34 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Lizzie McDowell of RFD 5, Hendersonville, and Mrs. Eliza Camp of Zirconia.
