Funeral services for Mr. David Wilburn “D.W.” Bass, Jr. will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 23, 2019, at Emmanuel Baptist Church, Oakdale with Reverend Ervin Goodman officiating.

Interment will follow in Resthaven Cemetery, under the direction of Rush Funeral Home, Oakdale.

Mr. Bass, 92, of Oakdale, entered eternal rest on Thursday, September 19, 2019 in Rapides Regional Medical Center, Alexandria, LA.

D.W. loved God, his family, his neighbors, and friends. He has been a Christian example to many during his 92 years on this earth. As an ordained Deacon in the Baptist Church for over 60 years, he served faithfully until age 92, when he was honored with the title of Deacon Emeritus. During his life he gave of himself to his family, his employers, his community, and his country.

He was a U.S. Army WWII Veteran and was instrumental in setting up post exchanges in the European theater.

After marrying the love of his life, Bobbie, he was employed in Oakdale by Newport Industries where he retired as a Plant Maintenance Supervisor. D.W. was a certified electrician and wired many homes and businesses in the Oakdale area. Serving the community as a volunteer fireman for many years, D.W. also served as Oakdale Assistant Fire Chief. His legacy lives on in the lives of his family and everyone he touched. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle, and will be missed by everyone that knew him.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Louise “Bobbie” Bass; his parents, David Bass, Sr. and Lydia Bass; one brother, Edward James Bass and three sisters, LaVerne Willis, Doris Pender, Leola Gibson.

Those left to mourn his loss and cherish his memory include his two daughters, Dianne Nugent and her husband, Mike, of Hineston, Barbara Lynn Hindmon and her husband, Danny, of Oakdale; two grandchildren, Nicole Fitzgerald and her husband, Rhett, of Walker, Joshua David Hindmon and his wife, Lisa, of Humble, TX; three great grandchildren, Evyn Fitzgerald, Matthew David Hindmon and Nathan Daniel Hindmon.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are; Huey Bertrand, Rhett Fitzgerald, Josh Hindmon, Mark Pender, Bruce Sanderson and Russell Turnage. The Deacons of Emmanuel Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Friends may call at Rush Funeral Home, Oakdale, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 22, 2019. Visitation will resume on Monday, September 23, 2019 at Emmaunel Baptist Church, Oakdale beginning at 9:00 a.m. until time of service.
