He was born in Alexandria, LA, on February 3, 1927, to the late Leroy and Nellie Moriarty, Sr.
Joe proudly served in the Navy during WWII. Following his Navy service contract he began working as a Golf Pro and then in Civil Service. While in Civil Service, he worked at various Air Force bases ending with Pope AFB, primarily as a golf course greenskeeper.
Joe is survived by his daughter Anne Ruybal and husband Steve of Durham; son, Scott Moriarty of Fayetteville; grandsons, Robert Moriarty of Durham, Gavin Moriarty of Fayetteville, and Marcus Sanderson of Anderson Creek.
The family will host a private service.
