1934 - 2016 (Age 82)

Bob Cooney, a retired investment banker and devoted husband, father and friend, passed away on March 9, 2016. He was 82 years old and resided in Vero Beach, Florida, part-time since 1986 and full-time since 1999. Born in Boston, MA in 1934, Bob graduated from St. Sebastian's School in Newton, MA in 1952 and the College of the Holy Cross in 1956, where he was captain of the golf team. Following college, he served as a photo-intelligence officer in the U.S. Navy on the USS Forrestal, retiring as a Lieutenant in 1959. After graduating from Harvard Business School in 1962, Bob joined First Boston Corporation, an investment bank in New York, where he spent 27 of his 37 years on Wall Street, retiring in 1999 as a Managing Director in Equity Capital Markets. In retirement, Bob served on the boards of BBH Exhibits Inc., Hoening Group Inc., Edison Control Corporation, and Equity One, Inc., a NYSE-listed shopping center REIT, where he served as Lead Director from 2003 to 2006. He also served as Chairman of the Investment Committee of the Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice House and of Trinity Episcopal Church, both in Vero Beach, FL. Bob was a member of John's Island Club, Vero Beach, FL and Apawamis Club in Rye, NY. Bob is survived by his loving wife, Anne; his son Robert Lincoln Cooney Jr. of Philadelphia, PA and his wife Michelle Cooney; his daughter Courtney Carroll Cooney of San Francisco, CA and her husband Christopher Solmssen; his stepdaughter Mary Stubbs Palmer of Park City, UT and her husband James Palmer; his stepson, William K. Stubbs III of Los Angeles, CA and his wife Brooke; and his much-loved grandchildren Meredith, Catherine and Amanda Cooney, Max, Philippa and Margaret Solmssen, Kingsley and Beckley Palmer and Lake Stubbs. He is predeceased by his parents Dr. Edward Anthony Cooney and Lillian Carroll Cooney, his sister Carolyn Cooney Burns and his brother Edward Anthony Cooney Jr. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice House, Vero Beach, FL, the Cathedral of St. Patrick, New York, NY, or Trinity Episcopal Church, Vero Beach, FL. A Celebration of Bob's life will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church, Vero Beach, FL at 11:00am on Saturday, March 19, 2016.
