Darrell W. Taylor was born in Paragould, Arkansas on July 22, 1951 to Darrell and Kathryn
Taylor. He passed away peacefully on September 16, 2019, at the Phil and Flo Jones Hospice
House surrounded by his family.
His childhood was spent in the Campground community were he worked in his family’s
grocery store and was a life long member of Campground United Methodist Church. He graduated from Oak Grove High School in 1969. He then attended Arkansas State University while working at Monroe Auto Equipment. He later began running a route for
Tom’s Snack Foods, where he became a sales representative for them. He continued his sales
career by opening Century 21 Hometown Realty in Paragould, which was the perfect career
choice for this honest, hard working man who loved to be around people. He retired from real
estate in 2017 after 35 years.
Darrell thoroughly enjoyed serving his community and helping others. He proudly served
eighteen years on the Paragould City Council and eight years on the Paragould School Board.
He also served in Kiwanis, the Paragould Board of Realtors, the City Beautiful Commission,
Leadership Paragould and was involved in the Paragould Masonic Lodge. Darrell was also a
board member of the Paragould Chamber of Commerce and was a Greene County Justice of
the Peace.
Darrell was known for his story telling and the love he had for his girls. He loved to hunt,
fish, travel and spend time with family.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Kathryn Taylor, his grandparents Albert and Lillian
Wikowsky and Bill and Vivian Taylor.
He is survived by his wife, Jane, of 47 years; his daughters, Jamie McIlvoy (Gene) and
Elizabeth Sheldon (Jim); granddaughters, Anna McIlvoy, Liza McIlvoy, and Suzanne Sheldon; his father, Darrell Taylor; and his brother, Mike Taylor (Sherry). He was also survived by many
nieces, nephews, extended family and numerous friends.
Visitation will be Thursday evening from 6:00-8:00pm at Heath Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Friday beginning at 1:00 pm at First United Methodist Church in Paragould under the direction of Heath Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Greene County Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers are nephews, Zack Shearer, Travis Shearer, Zach Taylor, Kody Taylor and cousins, Shannon Woodard and Dave Aronson. Honorary pallbearers are Mike Taylor, Terry Taylor, Jerry Helms, and Gene Helms.
