Vernon L. (Bud) Horner, age 90, of Montmorenci Rd., Ridgway, died Monday morning February 26, 2018 at Pinecrest Manor. He was born July 2, 1927 in Keystone, PA, son of the late Clarence and Arvilla (Berkey) Horner. He married Nellie B. Johnson on August 17, 1953, she preceded him in death on January 18, 2018.
He resided in Ridgway for most of his life and was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church where he was a church usher and lay minister. He was a member of the Montmorenci Grange-past Master, American Legion-past Commander, the Masons, the Historical Society, and the Belles of St. Marys. He served in the U.S. Army and was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict. He had been employed as Laundry Manager at Elk County General Hospital for many years. He also worked at Motion Control, Ridgway Color, Alpine Pressed Metals, and was a school bus driver for many years.
He is survived by 1 daughter Delores Horner Williams and her companion Jon of Portland, Oregon, 2 sons: Ed (Roxanne) Horner of Ridgway, R. Scott Horner and close friend Loretta of St. Marys, 5 grandchildren: Brandy (Jim) Dente, Charlie (Dolly) Horner, Anthony (Ann) Horner, Grahm (Sherry) Horner, Slade Horner and close friend Marissa, 14 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers Charles and Glenn Horner, 4 sisters: Althea Kennard, Ruby Blessel, Thelma Creek, Vivian Erich, foster parents Ed and Ethel Rickard, and a foster sister Jean Estoppey.
