Elsie Mae Potter and Joseph Marvin Haynes were married on December 10, 1926 in Dallas, Texas. Marvin, son of Joseph Walter Haynes and 2/w Flora Belle Marsh, was born on November 17, 1897 in Winona, Smith County, Texas. At the time of their marriage he was manager and part owner a Pig Stand in Los Angeles, California. Their two children were born in Los Angeles - Joseph Marvin, Jr. on January 26, 1929 and Elsie Marlene on September 5, 1931.
Over the years Marvin and Elsie owned restaurants in Tyler, Texas and Phoenix, Arizona. During World War II Marvin worked briefly at Ft. Huachucka, Arizona, at the Bluebonnet Arsenal in Waco, Texas, and then as the manager of food services for the 15 cafeterias of the Chickasaw Ordinance Works and another cafeteria at the Navy Aviation Reserve Base near Memphis, Tennessee. Only three months after the family had moved to Memphis, Marvin suffered a heart attack on December 23, 1943 and died at the Baptist Memorial Hospital at the age of 45 years, 1 month and 5 days. His body was returned to Dallas, Texas for burial.
After Marvin's death, Elsie returned to Dallas with Joe and Marlene where she purchased a two-story red brick duplex in East Dallas. There were two brothers and three Haynes in-laws who lived in the immediate area. Elsie and the children were devoted members of the East Grand Baptist Church. Elsie Mae Potter Haynes died at the age of 82 years, 9 months and 15 days on October 7, 1981 in Dallas, Texas. She was buried at the Grove Hill Cemetery.
