Suzanne Arlene Van Atta Wildenhaus Richards: A longtime resident of Chico, California, lost her battle with cancer on September 13th, 2019.

She was born to the late Clarence & Genevieve Van Atta on September 3, 1947 in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Suzanne grew up in a military family and lived in many places until California became her home. She graduated from Mt. Diablo High school in Concord, California (Class of 65).

Shortly after graduation in 1966, Suzanne met and married the late Douglas L. Wildenhaus, and together they had 3 beautiful children. She later married the late Walter Richards in 1986. In 2013, Suzanne met her significant other Don Curtis and they enjoyed exotic travel together. Don never left her side and took care of Suzanne while she was fighting her battle.

Suzanne had worked several odd jobs until she became a certified pharmacy technician for Longs drugs, now known as CVS, where she worked for 17 years. However, Suzanne had a love for sewing, which led her to leave Longs to follow in her brother, Daniel Van Atta and wife, Gesinee Van Atta’s footsteps to soon open Suzanne's Bridal in Chico, California. She faithfully served the community as the owner of Suzanne’s Bridal until she decided to retire and become a part-time assistant and buyer with Gesinee Van Atta. They too traveled all over together on trips and had lots of fun while still getting work done.

Suzanne is preceded by her beloved daughter Shelley Ann Wildenhaus, taken into God's arms at age 26 and beloved brother, Daniel Lee Van Atta, taken into God's arms at age 59.

Suzanne is survived by her eldest son Timothy Wildenhaus and wife Casey with grandsons Noah and Spencer; son Jeffrey Wildenhaus and wife Megan with grandchildren Preston, Natalie and Katelyn; granddaughter Jessica Boutelle and great grandson Sebastian; sisters Annette Findling, Carol Balliet and husband Tony; brothers James Van Atta, Clarence Van Atta III and wife Kathleen; Gesinee Van Atta wife of Daniel Van Atta; great aunt Louis Wennin (106) along with many cousins, nieces, nephews and step children.

Suzanne will always be remembered as a wonderful mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister. She was loving, caring, always smiling and with a laugh that was all her own. She had a heart full of love for others and enjoyed doing special things that warmed their souls. Suzanne was taken into God's arms at age 72.

This poem has been dedicated to Suzanne:

God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be,

So He put his arms around you and whispered "come with me."

With tearful eyes we watched you and saw you pass away,

and although we love you dearly we could not make you stay.

A golden heart stopped beating hard working hands at rest.

God broke our hearts to prove to us he only takes the best.

A Celebration of life will be held at Bidwell Presbyterian Church in Chico, California, on September 27th, 2019 at 2 PM. Suzanne will be laid to rest in Oroville, California, next to her father Clarence C. Van Atta II and grandmother Irma Van Atta.
