Michael G. McKee, 72, of Oquawka, IL, passed away at 3:30 pm. Monday, September 16, 2019 in Oquawka, IL.
He was born October 31, 1946 in Burlington, IA, the son of Kenneth K. and Dora Jean (Knustrom) McKee. Mike was raised and educated in Oquawka and graduated from Union High School in 1964.
Mike served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War as a heavy equipment operator; he was stationed in France and Germany during his tour of duty.
He married Marilyn L. Rastetter On January 27, 1968 at the Rozetta Baptist Church; she survives.
Mike worked for the Illinois Department of Transportation as a Highway Maintainer; he retired December 31, 2011. He was of the Methodist faith. Mike was a 48 year member of the Oquawka Masonic Lodge #123. He loved restoring his classic vehicles, tractors and enjoyed going to cruise nights, car shows and tractor shows. Mike's passion was restoring and cleaning military headstones at the Oquawka Cemetery. He was a member of the Teamsters. Most of all, Mike loved to spend time with his friends and family; he was always willing to help others.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn L. McKee of Oquawka, IL; his daughter, Rebecca (Todd) McKee-Miller of Gladstone, IL; two grandsons, Kenneth Michael (Jessi) McKee, Kody Michael (Clarissa Bollin) McKee both of Oquawka, IL; three great grandchildren, Brooklyn McKee, Bryer McKee, and Khloe McKee, all of Oquawka, IL. Also surviving is his sister, Susan Carr of Oquawka, IL, several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Stephen Michael McKee.
A Celebration of Mike's life will be from 5:00-8:00 pm, Friday, September 20, 2019 at Mama's Place (Former Oquawka Eagles Club). Graveside Services with Masonic & Military Honors will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 21, 2019 at the Oquawka Cemetery, Oquawka, IL. Cremation has been accorded. Memorials in Mike's memory may be given to the Oquawka Cemetery for the restoration and care of Military Markers, to carry on the work that Mike had started. McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth is in charge of the arrangement.
