Obituary: Samuel “Sam” Edward Watson, age 70, of Weston, WV passed away on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. He was born in Weston, WV on August 31, 1949, a son of the late John Sylvester and Katherine Jean Perrine Watson. Sam was a member of the first graduating class of Lewis County High School in 1967. On Sam’s 19th birthday he received the best gift of all, the love of his life, Hazel Marie Williams. Together they shared all the joys of marriage and raising their three wonderful children. In addition to his wife, Sam is survived by three children: Janet McCorkhill and husband, Charlie, of Weston, Lori Lovegrove and fiancé, Bobby Marks, of Philippi and Samuel “Ed” Watson II and wife, Jennifer, of Weston; six grandchildren: Chelsie and Cheyiannea Watson, Matthew and Mark Lovegrove, Samuel “Trey” Watson III and Bailey Watson; three brothers: John S. Watson and wife, Donna, and Merle Arthur Watson and wife, Kathy, all of Weston and James Allen Watson and wife, Pam, of Roanoke; two sisters: Sarah Edna Reed of Roanoke and Cynthia Lou Skinner of Seneca Rocks; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding Sam in death were his parents; two brothers-in-law: Junior Reed and Delbert Skinner; one nephew, Herbie Skinner; and one niece, Cynthia Michelle Watson. Sam was Christian by faith. His hard work and dedication were evident after he started Sam Watson Trucking and operated it for over 27 years. With all his knowledge of trucks, Sam was a Working Show Truck Champion and nationally recognized. In his spare time, Sam was a huge fan of dirt track racing, specifically Fastrak Pro Late Model. With his son and grandson many hours were spent at the tracks where he shared his wisdom and passion for racing with them. Sam also enjoyed watching the West Virginia Mountaineers and was always proud of his Wild and Wonderful home. Family and friends will gather at Pat Boyle Funeral Home and Cremation Service, located at 144 Hackers Creek Road in Jane Lew, from 4-7 PM on Tuesday, September 17, 2019. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, September 18, 2019 in the Pat Boyle Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Roger McKee officiating. Interment will follow at Mitchell Cemetery in Roanoke.
