Carl Deden came to this country in 1910 from Denmark, settling in Dania, Broward County, Florida. He moved to Homestead in 1912 and was associated with Capt. M. C. Hardee, a prominent tomato grower from Dania for a number of years. His wife, Bessie, was the sister of Jewell, who was the wife of Thomas P. Brooker, brother of Henry Brooker, Sr. Bessie and Jewell were sisters of Thomas J. Harris, a long-time mayor of Homestead.
