Former Ontario School Superintendent Harry Boyd (88) left us to be with the Lord, Thursday June 7, 2018. He died peacefully at St. Alphonsus Hospital in Ontario, surrounded by his family. An exceptional educator, husband, father, community leader, sportsman, and friend, Harry will be mourned and missed by the many people he had loved and nurtured over his long, productive life.
As a school district administrator, Harry was the boss everyone desired: patient, supportive, encouraging, thoughtful and committed. He helped train many to become excellent teachers and examples for their students. Throughout his 36 year career progression as teacher, principal, curriculum director and superintendent he provided the consistent, caring, and competent leadership needed by the district. Respected by his peers, he was elected President of the Oregon chapter of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development. At his retirement, over 100 teachers and friends honored him with a dinner to acknowledge their respect and admiration for his service.
As a community leader, few have had as much impact on the City of Ontario. A fifty-nine year resident of the same house on 3 rd Ave., Harry was always a great neighbor. His willingness to serve wherever and whenever needed led to his active involvement in many clubs and organizations. Furthermore, he and his wife Ruby provided much needed financial support to many charities and projects within the community.
As a devoted husband to Ruby, his beloved wife of almost 66 years, he was loving, attentive, helpful and true. He adored his wife and she returned every favor. As a couple they have served as both an inspiration and example for their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. To the many teachers and students Harry and Ruby have nurtured over the years, this is the marriage to be emulated.
As a father, Dad was always there for us. His love was apparent in every interaction. He encouraged, supported, and guided our development into adults who reflected his teachings. Always patient, kind and helpful, our father was deeply loved by his children.
As grandfather and great grandfather, Grandpa Harry was always playful, happy and loving. Visits to Ontario were joyously anticipated. All his descendants have done well, a testament to the impact of the strong extended family Harry created.
As a sportsman, Harry certainly enjoyed his three passions; fishing, hunting and golf. Much better at the first two, he terrorized the trout of Malheur County as the consummate fly fisherman. He was known to stop in the middle of a river, flip down the tie station on his waders and create the perfect fly. The only problem with hunting next to Harry was you never got off a shot before he had downed the bird. Deer and elk hunts, often with the family of lifelong friend Norm Poole, were wonderful adventures.
A 60 year member of the Ontario United Methodist Church, Harry has served as lay leader, trustee, usher, and even sang in Ruby’s choirs. A deeply religious man, Harry went to meet the Lord with confidence, knowing he has been a true and faithful servant.
As patriarch, husband, father, or friend, Harry will be missed, mourned and long remembered by all.

Survived by his wife, Ruby; his children Judy Rowan, Mike Boyd and Karen, Bob Boyd and Tobi, grandchildren Jennifer Pascoe, Jessica Rowan Saleem, Joe Boyd, Jeremy Boyd, Steve Boyd and Kim Boyd.
