Rock Musician. He was the lead singer, guitarist, and songwriter for the seminal rock band "The Cars". Born in Baltimore, Maryland, he co-founded the band in Boston, Massachusetts in 1976 with guitarist Elliott Easton, bassist Benjamin Orr, drummer David Robinson, and keyboard player Greg Hawkes. The band was popular from 1978 to 1988, releasing hit songs like "Just What I Needed" (1978), "My Best Friend's Girl" (1978), "Let's Go" (1979), and "You Might Think" (1984). They were voted Best New Artist of the Year in the 1978 Rolling Stone magazine Readers' Poll and won "Video of the Year" for "You Might Think" at the first MTV Music Video Awards in 1984. Their debut album "The Cars" sold six million copies and appeared on the Billboard 200 album chart for 139 weeks. They released a total of seven albums, with the first five achieving platinum status. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April 2018. Ric Ocasek released seven solo albums, from "Beatitude" in 1982 to "Nexterday" in 2005. He was also a successful producer for multiple bands. He produced three albums for the alternative rock band "Weezer"-"Blue Album," "Green Album," and "Everything Will Be Alright in the End;" and for other artists such as "No Doubt," "Suicide," "The Wannadies," and "The Cribs." He was married to supermodel Paulina Porizkova since 1989.
