Mabel Tarr

Mrs. Mabel Tarr, 86, lifelong Independence resident, died Wednesday at 10:35 p.m. at the Glenwood Estates Nursing Home where she had been a resident since March 1969.

Graveside services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in Mount Hope Cemetery with the Rev. Carlton Garrison, pastor of the First Christian Church, officiating. Burial will be under the direction of the Potts Chapel.

Although the casket has been close friends may call to register at the funeral home.

The family has suggested memorial contributions to the First Christian Church. They will be received at the funeral home or the church office.

Mrs. Mabel Tarr was born March 12, 1893, in rural Independence, the daughter of Hiram F. and Mary Rebecca (Rupe) Ranes. She attended rural school near Independence and later held various employments.

She married Robert James Tarr in Independence on Dec. 28,1913. He was a longtime Independence barber and preceded his wife in death in August 1951. Following the death of her husband, Mrs. Tarr began her employment with Calvert's Department Store where she had been employed as a salesperson until her retirement about 11 years ago.

She was a member of the First Christian Church.

Survivors include one son, Charles of Wichita; one daughter, Mrs. Pauline Harrison, Tulsa, Okla.; one sister, Mrs. Edith Bracken, Vallaho, Calif.; and one grandchild and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
