James E. Chase, 88 of Mohawk, passed away on Wednesday January 12, 2011 in Faxton-St. Luke's Health Care in New Hartford.
Jim was born on August 26, 1922 in Schenevus, NY the son of the late Edger and Pearl (Miller) Chase. He was a graduate of Ilion Schools and served with the 14th Armored Division during WWII in the European Theater. On August 1, 1953 he married the former Barbara Kane. Jim was employed as a machinist at Remington Arms in Ilion until his retirement in 1981.
Jim was a member of the Remington Arms 25 yr. Club and he loved his new cars and always was polishing and waxing them.
Jim is survived by his loving wife Barbara; his daughter Susan and her husband Louis Boniello; a sister Esther and her husband Arthur Brown of Herkimer; sisters in law Lois Thompson of Sydney, Rosemary Kane of Clyde and Vicki Kane of Ilion; his grandchildren Louis, Paul and Michael; and great grandchildren Jamie, Kaniryn and Allison, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister Jennie and her husband Marshall Hardy, brother and sister in laws George Kane, Morris Kane, Kay O'Bryan and Helen and Donald Davidson.
A memorial Mass will be held at the Blessed Sacrament Church in Mohawk at a date and time to be announced in the spring. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Herkimer. In keeping with Jim's wishes there are no calling hours. Arrangements are with the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home Inc. 100 Otsego St. in Ilion. Friends are asked to consider memorial donations to either St. Jude's Childrens Hospital or Blessed Sacrament Church in Mohawk, envelopes are available at the funeral home.
