Donnie Carter was born in Bladen County, North Carolina on June 4, 1930. She attended Garland High School, Garland, North Carolina and continued on to receive her high school diploma from Indian River High School in Chesapeake, VA in 1974.
Donnie Carter was married to Lewis Clem Carter on September 14, 1947 who predeceased her in 2006; they were married 59 years.
Donnie Carter worked for 30 years and retired in 1991 from Sears and Roebuck as an Executive Secretary to the manager at the Service Center in Virginia Beach.
Donnie was a loving and devoted mother and in her later years she devoted her life to caring for her husband, Clem, who needed special care. In her younger years, Donnie was a member of a book club and enjoyed crocheting and embroidering. She was an excellent seamstress and she made beautiful clothes for her daughters, Barbie and Debbie. Donnie enjoyed shopping and going on trips with her best friends. She was also a wonderful, fun loving grandmother and was always there in every way for her family. Donnie Carter was blessed to have lifelong friendships with Anne Kiskinis and Stella Price who continue to love and support her family.
Visitation will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, May 13, 2017, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, 524 Cedar Road, Chesapeake, VA. A Funeral Service will follow immediately at 2:00 pm. Weather permitting a burial service will be at 2:40 pm at Chesapeake Memorial Gardens located beside the funeral home. John Butler of Redeemer Church in Chesapeake, VA will be officiating.
A reception for family and friends to celebrate the life of Donnie will be held at 3:00 pm at the home of her daughter, Deborah, 519 Liverpool Court, Chesapeake, VA.
Donnie Carter is survived by a brother, Lacy Smith; twin daughters, Barbara Carter Peppos and Deborah Carter Moulse; son-in-laws, Steve Peppos and Bud Moulse; grandson, Kevin Peppos; granddaughters, Tara Peppos Smith and Bailey Carter Moulse; great granddaughters, Sofie Olivia Smith and Cameron Chase Peppos; and great grandson, Luke Patrick Smith, who will be born in August.
