Clyde “Chic” Ferguson passed away at Stafford Hospital 10 September 2019. He is
survived by his wife, Loretta Adams Ferguson, four daughters Carol Embrey Belles
widow of Charles Belles of Triangle, Debbie Carter and husband Warren Carter of
Stafford, Darlene Borkovich and husband Bob Borkovich of Thornburg and Tracey
Via and husband Robert Via of Stafford, 11 grandchildren and 16 great-children.
He is also survived by his brothers Perry Ferguson and Ronald Ferguson of
Woodbridge. He is predeceased by his son Clyde Cecil Ferguson Jr. and his
daughter Teresa Faye Ferguson, his parents John and Annie Kate Ferguson, his
sisters Shirley Mitchem and Wilma McBridge.
Chic was born in West Virginia in 1930 and enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1947.
When he transferred to Quantico he met his wife Loretta. After leaving the Corps
he worked for the A&P Grocery Store quickly working himself up to assistant
manager before moving on to Giant Food. After retiring from the grocery
distribution, he served as Commissary Officer at the Adult Detention Center in
Manassas for a number of years when he decided to retire again.
Chic was very active til the day of his death. Between work and raising a family
Chic found time to work with the veterans thru The American Legion Buck Keyes
Post 28. He served many offices in the organizations was elected as State
Commander of the organization in 1985. Helping the veterans and children
became his passion and he continued working with the organization til his death.
He also worked with the 40 & 8, Marine Corps League and Masonics.
Chic further helped his community, serving as Mayor of the Town of Dumfries
After his last retirement Chic devoted his time to his family, The American Legion,
Sons of The American Legion and his vegetable garden and flowers.
In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made to Child Welface
Foundation in Chic’s name. Information can be obtained from The American
Legion.
