She was born on February 27, 1922, in Shipshewana, to Lee L. and Lizzie (Schrock) Yoder. On October 20, 1945 in Shipshewana she married James T.H. Ringo; he passed away January 26, 2002.
During their marriage they had lived in the Chicago and Shipshewana areas.
Surviving are daughter, Melody Stoddard; three grandsons, James T., Robert A. & John D. Stoddard; nine great-grandchildren, and a number of foster children.
She was a homemaker and throughout her life she was always a very active member of church, often teaching Sunday School. She was also active with Campus Crusade and International Students.
She was an author, writing Shipshewana area news for two local newspapers and three books; two about Shore Mennonite Church and one about the Shipshewana area. She was an entrepreneur having run the family business, Melody Hill Resort at Stone Lake and managed real estate in Shipshewana area.
She had a desire to become a nurse; that desire led her into becoming the caregiver for her family. She loved to travel and sing and was part of the Indiana Music Makers, with whom she often traveled abroad. She also belonged to the Shipshewana Book Guild and the Shipshewana Historical Society. Gladys was loved by all walks of life and practiced what she preached.
Visitation will be from 3:00 - 7:00 pm on Saturday, September 14 and one hour prior to the 2:00 pm funeral service on Sunday, September 15 all at Shore Church, Shipshewana. Services will be conducted by Duane Sharp.
Burial will be in Shore Cemetery, Shipshewana.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Shore Church.
