Charles Lester Starnes, age 79, of Newport, passed away Wednesday, September 11, 2019.

He was an Army veteran and retired from a career with Bellsouth.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Loyd and Bea Starnes, son, Craig Starnes, brother, Junior, and sister, Betty.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Judy Norton Starnes, daughter, Dee Starnes Stewart, son Joe (Kristen) Starnes, grandchildren, Makendra, Camryn, Addison, and Audrey, great grandchildren, Admiral and Cheyson, sisters, Peggy Parks and Evelyn McNamara, and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Sunday, September 15, 2019 from 5:00pm7:00pm at Brown Funeral Home. Funeral service will begin at 7:00pm with Pastor Tom Moody and Pastor Mike Hensley officiating. Burial will take place Monday, September 16, 2019 at 10:00am in Union Cemetery with military honors.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Food Pantry at Swannsylvania Baptist Church.
