She was preceded in death by her mother, Ella Sue Fuller Horsley, her husband of thirty-three years, James Raymond McMahon, and her infant granddaughter, Catherine Rose McMahon.
After graduating from Boaz High School, Nancy earned degrees in English Literature and Spanish from Birmingham-Southern College and went on to obtain an M.S. in Education from Samford University. She worked as a teacher and guidance counselor in the Jefferson County, Marshall County and Huntsville school systems. After devoting many years to raising a family, Nancy returned to work, conducting training courses in writing with the Communications Skills Company in Huntsville for 11 years and working as a technical editor for Teledyne Brown Engineering for 17 years.
Nancy was a very active member of the community. Along with several friends, she formed a small company which gave walking tours of the Twickenham District. She was a member of the Blossomwood Garden Club, in which she served a term as president, and was also a member of the Huntsville Chapter of Alpha Omicron Pi and of the Huntsville Literary Association.
