Ted Merrill Dunn
JUNE 20, 1932 ~ SEPTEMBER 9, 2019 (AGE 87)
Our loving husband, dad, grandpa and great-grandpa passed away on September 9, 2019 surrounded by his family.
Ted Merrill Dunn was born on June 20, 1932 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Ralph Clifton and Jean Olive Dunn. He was the youngest of five children. Ted’s family moved to Provo while he was young and he spent his childhood there. In junior high school he was elected as vice president over the student body. He was active in sports and placed 2nd in the state for the high jump. Ted attended Provo High School and was All State in baseball for 3 years. After high school he went to spring training with the Brooklyn Dodgers and the Pittsburgh Pirates. Although the Dodgers offered him a contract to play with their farm team, Ted decided to stay in Provo to work at Geneva Steel and play semi-pro baseball for the Provo Timps. Ted was drafted into the Korean War and played baseball for Fort Ord.
Ted married Barbara Ann Robison on February 7, 1953 and shortly after they moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, Barbara’s home town. They spent 13 years there where Robin, Tina, Mitchell, and Cheri were born. After that they moved to Dallas, Texas and then back to Salt Lake City where their last child, Carter, was born. The family was sealed together in the Logan Temple on August 4, 1964.
Ted worked in sales a lot during his life and finished his career at USANA. Ted loved sports and loved coaching his boys. He also enjoyed playing golf, even making a hole in one. He especially enjoyed playing golf these past few years with his good friend, Frank Wengert.
Ted was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served in many callings and had a strong testimony of the gospel which carried him through his last days. He loved sharing his testimony with others.
Ted is survived by his wife, Barbara; 5 children: Robin (Richard) Salisbury, Tina (Reid) Cram, Mitchell (Angela) Dunn, Cheri (Drew) Winebrenner, Carter Dunn; 22 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, 2 brothers, a granddaughter, two great-granddaughters, and a son-in-law.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 14, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Jordan Willows 7th Ward, 1801 W. 700 S., Lehi, with a viewing at 9:30 a.m. at the church prior to the services. Interment: Draper City Cemetery.
