Stella Gosnell Thomas, 89, formerly of Brookdale New Hope, passed away November 12, 2018.

Stella was born in Altavista, Virginia, daughter of the late Horace Culyer and Clara DeHart Gosnell. In addition to her parents, Stella was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Charles Ray Thomas; brothers, Thomas C. Gosnell, Leonard Gosnell, and sister, Joyce G. Wilmarth.

Stella grew up in Belmont, attended Belmont High School where she was class Valedictorian. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, and a circle leader of United Methodist Women. She and her late husband were very active through the years with the young people of the church. Stella was also a member of the Gaston County Home Extension Club, a Lionette, Assistant Girl Scout Leader, and a tutor through the Literacy Council. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her daughters, Joy T. Jones and husband Shields, Robin L. Thomas; grandson, Christopher S. Jones, and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 pm, Tuesday, November 20, 2018 in the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm with Rev. David Christy officiating. Burial will follow at Gaston Memorial Park.
