Roberta A. Martin, loved and known to family and friends as “Bert”, transitioned to her Heavenly Home from the Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, on Tuesday, September 3, 2019, at 6:00 p.m. She was blessed to have lived and shared her life here on earth for 66 years, 8 months and 2 days. She was born in Cairo, Illinois, on January 1, 1953, the lovely daughter to Mary Lynn Martin Faint. Roberta was preceded in death by her father, Theodis Faint, several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Roberta was a lifelong and dedicated member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Bardwell, Kentucky. She served diligently in the Usher Ministry, as Missionary President, in the Card Ministry, as church caretaker, and had taught the Youth Sunday School class. Roberta, a member of the West Kentucky Green Valley District (WKGVD) Association also served proudly as treasurer of the WKGVD Women’s Auxiliary. She was known to be present at almost all of the District’s various functions and meetings.

Roberta was one of three African American children to integrate the fourth grade at the Bardwell Elementary School in Bardwell, KY in 1964 and was a 1971 graduate of the Hickman County High School. While there, she attended the Murray State University Project Upward Bound Program, a summer enrichment program for high school students. She was crowned “Miss Upward Bound”, and represented the University’s Program at the state level in Louisville, KY, where she placed as “First Runner-Up Miss State Upward Bound”. Roberta attended Draughon’s Business College where she was certified in Business Administration. She later moved to Toledo, Ohio, to live with her Uncle Ted and Aunt Carolyn in the mid 1970’s where she was employed. She later returned to Clinton, KY. Upon her return she gained employment with the former West Kentucky Manor, Inc. and later with the ICF Facility of Clinton where she retired after 28 years of loyal service as a State Registered Nurse Assistant.

Bert was a member of the Hilltoppers Senior Group. She was a charter member and Past Worthy Matron of the Cecilia Dunlap Grand Chapter's Shining Star Chapter#138, Order of the Eastern Star, P.H.A., Jurisdiction of Kentucky and later became a member of Vanda A. Langham Chapter #137.

Bert was a “Good Person”; she always loved helping people. Many times she would stop whatever she was doing, just to go fulfill the needs of those who would call upon her to do for him or her. She had a special love for her twin granddaughters. This past July they were blessed to have come to stay and spend time with her and their "GG" for three weeks. All of them had more fun and excitement than one can imagine. Most importantly, she unselfishly was her mom’s caretaker and fulfilled her obligation as such with great pride and dignity. She was very active in the community and when not busy helping others, Bert would enjoy reading and watching her favorite shows on television.

She leaves to cherish her love and devotion:
