Professional Football Player. For thirteen seasons (1967 to 1979), he played at the left guard position in the National Football League with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Born Samuel Ruel Davis, he attended Northwestern High School in Florida and later played collegiate football at Allen University. Signed as a non drafted free agent by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1967, he totaled 168 career regular season games. During the course of his career, Davis provided key blocking for quarterback Terry Bradshaw and was a contributor to four Super Bowl titles captured by the Steelers. Davis health deteriorated in later years, as he suffered from dementia and blindness. His life ended sadly when he wondered off from the nursing home he was residing at and later found dead.
