Ken served in the US Army and was a CPA in the banking industry. He served as a deacon at Haleyville First Baptist Church and was a member of Haleyville Lions Club.

Visitation is Wednesday, September 11, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon at Pinkard Funeral Home-Haleyville. Service to follow at noon in the funeral home chapel. Burial in Winston Memorial Cemetery.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Willie Gilbert Bates.
