Dennis Maggard, 59, of River Ridge, passed away Monday, September 9, 2019, at the UK Hospital in Lexington from injuries received in an automobile accident. Born March 19, 1960 in Harlan County, Dennis was a former coal miner, enjoyed woodworking, and was a member of the Church of God of the Free People.
He is preceded in death by his parents, McCoy Maggard and Beulah Jones Maggard; a brother, Randy Maggard; three sisters, Karen Maggard, Tammy Hatmaker and Terenda “Teddy Bear” Fee; two grandchildren, Christopher Weedman and Blake Hutchings; and his father-in-law, Jim Wynn.
Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Melinda Wynn Maggard, River Ridge; four children, Brittany Maggard, River Ridge; Brianna Smith and husband, Robert “Hector”, River Ridge; Randall Dennis Maggard and wife, Heather, Loyall; and Laura Hutchings and husband, Michael, Sawbriar; two sisters, Kathy Gross and husband, M.G., Wallins; and Melinda “Kay Kay” Colinger and husband, Wesley, Fourmile.
Also surviving are three grandchildren, Hayden Maggard, Colton Jones and Aubre Smith; his mother-in-law, Mary Dorothy Wynn Doan, River Ridge; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5 until 9 pm at the Church of God of the Free People at Harlan Gas.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 pm on Thursday, September 12, 2019, at the Church with the Reverend Vonnie Jones and the Reverend Allen Jones officiating.
Burial will follow in the Evarts Memorial Gardens. Robert “Hector” Smith, M.G. Gross and the Brothers of the Church will serve as pallbearers.
