Larry Gene Gross, 80, of Atlantic Beach, Florida, passed away September 3, 2019. He was born in Ayrshire, Indiana, on September 4, 1938. Larry graduated from Winslow High School and married Karen Lee Hudson on July 2, 1961.
While serving as a radioman in the U.S. Navy, Larry served his nation for more than 21 years when he retired as a chief petty officer. He then went to work for the U.S. Post Office and, after 21 years, he fully retired. For many years, he was a member and later served as a Deacon at Oak Harbor Church. Most recently, he was a member of the First Baptist Jacksonville Beach Church. He had a gift for working with wood and leather. He was passionate about visiting the country he served and travelled extensively throughout all 50 states in his RV with his family by his side.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Karen; daughters, Daphne C. Lowery (Dennis), Rebecca D. Weilersbacher (Ryan W.), Julie K. Nader (Russell), Teresa A. Davis (Chip); grandchildren, Karen McCall, Cassidy Lowery, Amelia Lowery, Bonnie Lowery, Ryan W. Weilersbacher III, Vaughn Weilersbacher, Aiden Weilersbacher, Russell Nader, Haley Nader, Chloe Nader, Tyler Davis. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Carolyn Young, Rosemary Hopper; and brother, William C. Gross.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 10, 2019, at First Baptist Church, 324 Fifth Street North, Jacksonville, Florida, with visitation 1-hour before the service and military honors rendered by the U.S. Navy immediately following the service. Additionally, visitation will be held from 5:00 pm. - 7:00 p.m. on Monday, September 9, 2019, at HARDAGE-GIDDENS FUNERAL HOME, 1701 Beach Boulevard, Jacksonville Beach, Florida. Private Interment at Beaches Memorial Park, 1500 Main Street, Atlantic Beach, Florida.
