He was born in Randolph County on Sept. 1, 1934, and was a member of Springfield Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Ann Cummings Mayfield; daughters, Kim Yates (Kenneth) and Tammy Mayfield Word; five grandchildren, Kody Yates, Tori Ledbetter, Tara Yarbrough, Tray Mayfield and Paige Forbus; six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; siblings, Charlie Mayfield, Tim Mayfield and Jean Mayfield; nephew, Jamie Mayfield; and a host of other nieces and nephews.
Mr. Mayfield is preceded in death by his son, Danny Mayfield; his infant daughter, Alicia Kay Mayfield; and two brothers, W.J. Mayfield and Max Mayfield.
