"Eva S. Gaston, 90, of University Drive, Schuylkill Haven, Pa., formerly of Applewood Circle, Orwigsburg, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 2010, at Rest Haven Nursing Home, Schuylkill Haven. She was the wife of the late Oliver F. Gaston, who died Feb. 5, 2010.
Born Jan. 22, 1920 in East Brunswick, Schuylkill County, she was the daughter of the late Levi Sterner Sr. and Ida (Bachert) Sterner.
She was employed as a machine operator at Keptner and Scott Shoe Company, Orwigsburg, Pa.
She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Orwigsburg, Pa.
Surviving are two sons, Raymond O., husband of Ruth Gaston of Orwigsburg; and Richard F., husband of Mary Gaston of Cressona; four granddaughters, Kathi Katzaman of Schuylkill Haven; Deborah, wife of David Hartraft of Schuylkill Haven; Lorrie, wife of Robert Zimmerman Jr. of Pine Grove; Michele, wife of Raymond Walsh of Cressona; Michelle, wife of Jeffrey Kalyon of Pottsville; and grandsons, Richard A. Gaston of Lancaster and John O., husband of Chelesy Gaston of Las Vegas, NV; sister, Mable, wife of Norman Scheitrumpf of Tamaqua; brothers, Charles, husband of Mary Sterner of Orwigsburg; Levi Jr., husband of Mary Sterner of Summit Hill; and Raymond, husband of Delores Sterner of Palmerton. She is also survived by nine great-grand-children and three great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded by a sister, Eleanor Malich and a brother, Clarence Sterner.
Services: Religious services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5, with the Rev. Joseph J. Scholtes Jr. officiating. Family and friends may call 9 a.m. until time of services at Hamilton Funeral Home, 116 S. Liberty St., Orwigsburg. Interment at Friedens Lutheran Cemetery, New Ringgold. Family asks contributions be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church Memorial Fund in Eva's name at 215, N. Warren St., Orwigsburg, Pa., 17961."
