Billy Joe Crane, 68, of Matoaka, died Thursday, January 1, 2004 at Princeton Community Hospital in Princeton. Mr. Crane was a veteran of the United States Army and was retired from the West Virginia Department of Highways.

Born April 5,1935 at Piedmont, he was the son of the late Robert Crane Sr. (1903-1970) and Zola Melvin-Crane (1914-2002). In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Maxine Spence-Crane (Died in 1996); two brothers, Homer Crane (Deceased) and Robert Crane Jr. (Deceased); and two sisters, Jearldine "Jerrie" Crane-Purvis (Deceased) and Pauline Crane-Page (Deceased).

Survivors include one brother, Ronnie Crane (Deceased) of Matoaka; two sisters, Shelby "Jean" Crane-Thornton (Deceased) of Victoria, VA, and Anna "Pearl" Crane-Nesbit & husband, Charlie Thomas Nesbit (1921-2015) of Matoaka; nephew, Robert Lee Crane; niece, Kathleen Crane of the home; and several more nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Roselawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Princeton with the Rev. Randolph Dishner officiating. Friends and family attending the service are asked to meet at the cemetery. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton is in charge of arrangements.
