Actor. He was best known to television viewers as 'Dr. Hoover' on the 1990s NBC sitcom "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air." Born John Wesley Houston, he served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War prior to going into acting full-time. His acting debut came in 1963 on the television series "My Three Sons." Besides "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air," he also appeared in such television series as "The Man from U.N.C.L.E.," "Daktari," "The Jeffersons," "Hill Street Blues," "Dirty Dancing," "In the Heat of the Night," "Superhuman Samurai Syber-Squad," "Martin," and "Cursed." He made his film debut in 1968, playing a guard on the western drama "Hang' Em High." He went on to appear in other films during his career such as "Missing in Action 2: The Beginning" (1985), "Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot" (1992), and "The Little Rascals" (1994). He also appeared on stage in various productions both in England and the United States. He passed away after a long battle with multiple myeloma.
