Professional Football Player. For eight seasons (1953 to 1958 and 1960 to 1961), he played at the halfback position in the National and American Football Leagues with the Green Bay Packers and Denver Broncos. Born Albert Reinhold Carmichael, he was raised in California where he attended Gardenia High School. He served with the United States Marine Corps where he discovered his fondness for football while a member of his base's team. After his discharge, he enrolled at the University of Southern California. Carmichael scored the only touchdown for Southern California as they defeated Wisconsin in the 1953 Rose Bowl Game. Selected by the Green Bay Packers as the number 7 overall pick during the 1953 NFL Draft, he totaled 84 career regular season NFL and AFL games. In 1956, he set a NFL record with his 106-yard kickoff return which stood until 2007. He joined Denver of the newly-formed AFL and holds the distinction as being the first player to score a touchdown in the American Football League, as well as the first player in Denver Broncos' history to score for the franchise. He accomplished both feats with a 59-yard touchdown reception against the Boston Patriots on September 9, 1960. Following his football career, he worked as a stuntman and served as a double for Kirk Douglas in the film "Spartacus" (1960). He was also a regular stuntman for the TV series "Rawhide" in addition to other motion pictures. He later worked in the real estate industry. He was inducted into the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame in 1974.
