Doc, age 96, passed away in Coffeyville, Kansas. He was the son of Harlan and Lora (Brown) Alter. He graduated from Field Kindley Memorial High School in 1940 and was admitted to Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine in the fall of 1942. He served in the US Army, was honorably discharged, received his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 1945, and then was appointed as a Captain in the US Army Veterinary Corp Reserves. He married Norma Dreessen. He opened his vet practice in 1946 and his clinic in 1963.

Survivors include his son, Steve Alter, one granddaughter, and one great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and his sister, Kathleen Anderson.

Funeral services were held at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel. Interment followed immediately after in Fairview Cemetery.
