Walter (Wally) Petrow, age 87, of Stratford, beloved husband of 62 years of Rose Gaydos Petrow, died peacefully in his home on Friday, April 11, 2003. Born in Mansfield, he had been a Stratford resident for many years, and had also lived in Bridgeport and North Little Rock, Arkansas. He had served in the National Guard 242nd Headquarters Battalion during World War II. Walter attended the Bridgeport Engineering Institute. He had worked for Remington DuPont for 45 years prior to his retirement and served on the board of the Remington DuPont Quarter Century Club. Walter worked as a metalurgical engineer at the Bridgeport plant and transferred to Lonoke, Arkansas as a purchasing agent and retired in 1975. An active communicant of Our Lady of Grace Church, he belonged to the social and travel club, the senior card club, the men's club, Slavonic club and also served as an usher and altar server. He was a charter member of the Monsignor James F. Murphy Council 4716 of the Knights of Columbus. Walter was also a member of M.A.L.E.S. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one beloved son, two beloved daughters, one brother, Louis, one sister, Millie McMahon of Trumbull; one sister-in-law, Helen Feller of Bridgeport; seven grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to attend the funeral on Monday, April 14, 2003, at 9:15 a.m. at the Pistey Funeral Home, 2155 Main Street, Stratford and at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Church with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday, April 13, 2003, from 4 to 8 p.m. The M.A.L.E.S. will conduct a service at 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to CT Hospice Homecare, 925 Bridgeport Avenue, Shelton, CT 06484.
