KoreaLongtime Quincy resident John "Johnny" C. Goings passed from this life to his eternal home with the Lord Saturday, Aug. 11, 2007, at Feather River Hospital in Paradise.

Born August 2, 1931, in Alturas to the late Frank and Bertha (Connor) Goings, Johnny moved with the family to Fallon, Nev. when he was a young child. Johnny left high school early to serve his country during the Korean War. As a member of the U.S. Air Force he served from 1951-1952 and continued his service in the Air Force Reserve. After his honorable discharge Johnny settled in Loyalton. It was here while at a church function that he met pretty young Patsy Sue White. They were united in matrimony at the Quincy Assembly of God Church by Rev. York.

To this union, a son and a daughter were born.

The newlyweds settled in Quincy in 1954. Johnny worked in the lumber industry 43 years, retiring from Sierra Pacific Industries as a forklift operator. Johnny had a deep faith in his risen savior and was a longtime member of the Quincy Assembly of God congregation. There, he served the Lord as a deacon in the church. A member of the Lumber and Industrial Workers Union Local 3074, he served as their representative from 1975-1976. He enjoyed spending time outdoors fishing and especially cutting firewood. An animal lover, he especially enjoyed dogs. Johnny could strike up a conversation with anyone. He enjoyed people and was always there to extend a helping hand when needed.

In passing Johnny leaves his loving wife Patsy of 53 years; daughter and son-in-law Gayla and Ron Trumbo and son Johnny L. Goings, all of Quincy. Grandchildren Haley Schaffer and Nathan Trumbo and great-grandchildren Michael and Makayla also survive him.

He joins in his eternal home his parents, three sisters and one brother. A celebration of Johnny's life, to include military honors, will take place at 11 a.m., Friday, Aug. 17, 2007, at the Fehrman Mortuary Chapel in Quincy.

Interment will take place at Quincy East Lawn Cemetery. An opportunity to express condolences to the family and sign the memorial guest register is available online at fehrmanmortuary.com. The family suggests any remembrances in Johnny's memory be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Fehrman Mortuary and Crematory, P.O. Box 53, Quincy, CA 95971.
