Billy "Butch" Matthews, 66, of Newbern, Tennessee died on Saturday, September 7, 2019, at his residence in Newbern, Tennessee.
Born Wednesday, November 19, 1952 in Blytheville, Arkansas, he was the son of the late Henry Louis Matthews and Billie Jo Webster Matthews. Mr. Matthews was the retired owner of Matthews Backhoe Service and proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp.
Graveside services for Mr. Matthews will be 1:00 PM on Monday, September, 9, 2019 at Poplar Grove Cemetery in Newbern, Tennessee. Officiating this service will be Rev. Nathe Ozment.
He is survived by one son, Kristoffer D. Matthews (Amanda) of Newbern, Tennessee; one daughter, Kimberly Dawn Hampton (Jeff) of Dyersburg, Tennessee; his mother, Billie Jo Webster Matthews of Lexington, Tennessee; four sisters, Darlene Dyer (Jeff) of Lexington, Tennessee, Sharon Davidson (Ron), Becky Simpson (David) of Lexington, Tennessee and Debbie Bailey (Vaughn) of Humboldt, Tennessee; five grandchildren, Taylor Poyner (Corey), Jake Matthews, Natalie Hampton Dean, Matthew Hampton and Emma Claire Hampton, one great-grandchild, Bailee Jo Poyner and special mention of Niki Cooper of Hahira, Georgia.
In addition to his father he was preceded in death by one daughter, Billie Jo Matthews.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Hampton, Corey Poyner, Gage Dean, Matthew Hampton, Rodney Lozier and Jason Thomas.
