Raymond A. "Bud" Porter of Fairmont passed away at Fitzwater's Assisted Living on Friday, February 23, 2018. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 71 years, Bernadine Porter, and their son, Michael Porter. He was born on May 3, 1920 in Carolina the son of the late Frank J. and Charlotte (Porzelt) Porter. He graduated from Farmington High School and the Industrial Training Institute of Chicago, Illinois. He worked for Bethlehem Mines Corporation at Idamay and retired from the West Virginia Department of Mines as a Safety Instructor. Bud was a member of the 39th Infantry Regiment of the Ninth Infantry Division. He participated in the Invasion of North Africa, Sicily and The Landing at Utah Beach in France. He was awarded the Bronze Star and the Distinguished Service Cross and attained the rank of Captain. He was a member of St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus and Fairmont Elks Lodge #294. Bud is survived by his daughters, Mary Pat Cowan and her husband Dan of North Carolina and Barbara Huffman of Nashville, Tennessee; a son-in-law, Orin Ellington of Palm Springs, California; his grandchildren, Allison and Dan Beck of Clark, New Jersey, and Erin and Dave Goliszek of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Casey and Charlie Smith of Bend, Oregon, twin grandsons, Jason and Kyle Huffman and granddaughter, Lindsay Huffman; his great grandsons, Gray Goliszek and Connor Beck and his great granddaughter Chloe Goliszek.
