Thomas Gresham was born in St. James Northan Parish, Goochland County, Virginia.

Notes: His parents, James Gresham b. 1715 d. 1770 and
Elizabeth Williams Gresham b. 1725 d. 1781 stated on their first land deed of 1745 in Goochland that they were "from King and Queen County, Virginia".

James died testate in 1770 and his widow Elizabeth Williams Gresham moved to Burke County, Georgia after his probate in Goochland was settled.

Widow Elizabeth moved with Rev. Edmund Byne and family of King and Queen, Virginia to Burke County, Georgia. Job Gresham son George Gresham and Sarah Dunweddie of K&Q, Virginia had married Mary, dau of Rev. Edmund Byne, noted Baptist Minister.

Joseph Gresham, the oldest son or adopted son of James and Elizabeth had applied to patent land in Burke County, Georgia as early as 1762. He would have to be age 18. so he may be from 1st marriage of James to unknown wife or the oldest son of George and Sarah Dunweddie, making him James nephew.
All of the children of James and Elizabeth Willams Gresham would migrate to Georgia.
Sons James (m. Mary Christian) and John (m. Martha Williams Scott) were Rev. War Vets. Son George (m. Elizabeth) was Captain of the Light Horse Calvary from Georgia during the Revolution and on his pension application of 1831 stated that after the war was over, he lived near his relatives at Bowler's Ferry which is near Dragon Swamp in King and Queen where Edward Gresham, the first Gresham Immigrant patented land in 1650.

Capt. George stated he spent 4 years near relatives in Granville, North Carolina after the War This is where Edward Gresham Sr. d. Abt.1787, Lovinia Gresham with husband William Forrester and Harris Gresham had migrated about 1750 from Prince Edward/Amelia, Virginia.

This group of Greshams, Edward, George, James, Harris, Lovinia, Robert had land transactions together, witnessed each other's wills and moved from county to county together in Virginia and are believed to be siblings. Edward Jr and brother Archibald eventually moved from Granville, North Carolina to Wilkes County, Georgia near the children of both George Gresham on 1704 QRR and James Gresham b. 1715 in K&Q. These cousins continued in Georgia to be guardians of the orphaned children, witnessed each other's wills and bought from each other's estate sales.)

Thomas Gresham married Mary Ann Dillard on 29 Oct 1787 in Amherst County, Virginia. He was living in Wilkes County, Georgia and went back to Virginia for his bride.

*Land Patent: 13 Feb 1784 Kettle Creek, Wilkes, Georgia had Thomas and his brother James on the deed signed by John Houston, Gov.

*On the 1785-1795 Tax List for Wilkes County, Georgia it lists the three Gresham brothers James, Thomas and George along with a cousin, Edward Gresham Jr.

Thomas Gresham and Williams Gresham his brother were Captains in the Wilkes County Militia in 1792.

Thomas Gresham died young in 1800. He left a widow, Mary Ann Dillard Gresham and 6 children.
(Mary Ann remarried James Fluker and he briefly became joint guardian for the orphans of Thomas Gresham.)
