John Sharp was born to George Thomas Sharp and Esther Richards on July 22, 1836 in England. He joined the LDS church at age 16 in 1852 and married Ann Maria Bailey in 1861. They immigrated to America, arriving in Salt Lake City September 15, 1861. They lived in the Union/Midvale area of Salt Lake County. Sons James and Samuel died young and are buried nearby along with his mother-in-law.
